Maize Exhibit Will be Featured at U.S. Botanic Garden Beginning in February

As part of a Maize TE Discovery and Annotation outreach activity associated with a National Science Foundation grant, ASPB member Jeff Bennetzen and his colleagues at the University of Georgia are planning an exhibit to be held at the U.S. Botanic Garden's facility on the Mall in Washington, DC.  The maize exhibit will be on display for around eight weeks, starting in mid to late February.  The exhibit will overlap with the upcoming Maize meeting.

The display will mainly be a small number of posters discussing the history, current contributions and future of maize as a crop and as a research model for genetics.  In addition, organizers would like to show some artifacts that would be of interest to the public.  Organizers will be purchasing such items as a metate, a corn kachina, a hand planter and a hand sheller.
