ASPB member Nina Fedoroff will be presented the 2006 National Medal of Science by President Bush on July 27. Rita Colwell, former Director of NSF and Perspectives of Science Leaders Program speaker at the ASPB annual meeting in Baltimore is also being honored with a National Medal of Science award. The National Science Foundation (NSF) administers the prestigious award program, which was established by Congress in 1959. It honors individuals for pioneering scientific research in a range of fields, including physical, biological, mathematical, social, behavioral and engineering sciences, that enhances our understanding of the world and leads to innovations and technologies that give the United States its global economic edge.
