ASPB
Membership Ambassador Application
About the program: This program is designed by the Membership Committee is to outreach ASPB's mission and membership to the graduate and undergraduate student community. The purpose of the Ambassador program is three-fold:
- To give graduate students and postdocs a direct voice to the governing bodies of the Society on issues that concern them,
- To educate the graduate student community about the importance of belonging to a professional society to enhance their career, the profession and to be part of continuing the efforts of plant biology research, and
- To expand ASPB's membership base to our younger constituents to ensure the continued growth of the community.
A number of current members who are graduate students will be recruited as ASPB ambassadors for a two-year period. The ambassadors will be given a 'buzz' kit which will help them spread the word about ASPB to their peers. Ambassadors are expected to actively participate by speaking about membership, gathering feedback, attending ASPB meetings, generating excitement for ASPB, blogging, and writing for requested membership materials. They will be given a 'to do' list that they will have be expected to then report to the membership committee.
What does it take to be an ASPB Ambassador? Energy, excitement and effort! This is not your typical group of students!
See our current club of Ambassadors and read more about their activites.
The application process includes an online form with a statement provided by you on why you would like to be an ambassador and hope to accomplish. With your application, two letters of recommendation are required, preferably from an advisor or program chair and they must be an ASPB member.
