Visa and Travel Requirements from outside of Canada and the United States

Please visit the official Canadian government website regarding visa requirements.

U.S. Residents

All U.S. citizens are now required to present a passport when entering Canada by land, sea, or air. Please visit the U.S. State Dept. website for details.

Non-U.S. Residents

Visit the Canadian Immigration web site for details on which countries require a tourist visitor Visa.

International Students, Scholars & Employees Residing in the U.S.

Those holding an exchange visa (J visas) or a student visa (F-M visa) a valid I-94 card in addition to your visa will be required for re-entry into the U.S. for visits less than 30 days. Check to be sure your visa doesn't expire before re-entry. More information on re-entry of U.S. student visas can be found on the State Department web site or the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement web site.

To re-enter the United Sates, you will be required to show the following. You can stay for less than 30 days with the following documents. As you leave the U.S., do not surrender any of your documents listed below.

  • Your valid passport
  • Your I-94 card (for students, small white card)
  • Your I-20 (for F-1 students), DS-2019 (for J-1 students or scholars) or I-797 (for H-1B workers)
  • Your U.S. Visa
  • Students, you are strongly advised to carry recent evidence of financial support for the total duration of your stay in the U.S.
  • Workers, you are strongly advised to carry a letter from your employer/institution confirming your employment, job title and salary as well as your original H-1B Notice of Approval.

Note: The Plant Biology 2010 meeing is registered with the Canadian government. However, registration does not give ASPB or it's partnering societies any influence over visa acceptance or re-entry into the U.S. We encourage you to apply for a visa as early as 6 months in advance, and check your expiration on your passport to begin renewing 4-6 months in advance if needed.
