Educational Activities at the Plant Science and Botany
Joint Congress, July 2007 in Chicago
This year's conference is sponsored jointly by the ASPB and BSA; all events
and activities are open to members of either society, and many events are sponsored
jointly by the societies. ASPB members are welcome to participate in the BSA's
Education Forum, Saturday and Sunday July 7th and 8th. Forum
activities include workshops, panel discussions, informational sessions
and scientific field trips.
To facilitate more discussion of broader impacts, a change has been made in
the abstract submission form. Below the scientific
abstract field, we've added a "Broader Impacts" field in which you
can describe your efforts in these areas. The ASPB Education Committee will
select speakers for an Education and Outreach minisymposium from these descriptions
as well as those abstracts submitted directly to the Education and Outreach
category.
The Education Workshop will focus on how to get from "Ideas to Impact".
Members who have developed and disseminated educational and broader outreach
materials and representatives from funding agencies and professional societies
will be available to discuss practical aspects of moving forward with your ideas.
The workshop feature drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres and will take place on
Monday July 9th from 5pm to 7pm. There is no charge to attend, but pre-registration
is required!
Finally, the interest and participation in the Education Booth continues to
grow - the call for proposals deadline is March 21st.
Winners of the booth exhibitor competition get their registration fees waived
and a $500 travel stipend.
See you in Chicago!
