Former Plant Cell Editor Rich Jorgensen a Science Newsmaker

The February 8 issue of Science reports on ASPB member Rich Jorgensen of the University of Arizona in the journal’s “Newsmakers” section.  The article reported on the selection of Jorgensen and a multi-university consortium by the National Science Foundation for receipt of a $50-million, five-year grant to build computational tools and interdisciplinary teams for plant biology.  The consortium is called the iPlant Collaborative.  The five-year stint of Jorgensen as editor-in-chief of The Plant Cell helped convince him that the plant community needed better ways to compile and analyze information across disciplines, the article noted.

The “Newsmakers” article is available to AAAS members and those with a subscription to Science.
